The Original Reserve Port Perfectly balanced Well structured, with rich, ripe fruit and gentle spicy tannins. COCKBURN'S SPECIAL RESERVE is made from selected quality grapes, which are picked by hand at Cockburn's own vineyard, and from selected neighbouring vineyards in the beautiful Upper Douro Valley. Cockburn's Special Reserve Port's particular style is achieved through longer ageing longer than most other Reserve Ports in seasoned oak vats, in order to achieve the ideal balance between vibrant youthful fruit and the elegant, smooth finish that wood maturation brings. The Symington Family acquired Cockburn's in 2010 and undertook a thorough review of the entire company's stock and of its winemaking practices. The overriding objective was to re-establish Special Reserve as one of the leading Premium Ports. Careful attention was paid to the Cockburn's tradition of longer wood ageing for Special Reserve. This entails additional cost for the company, but is an essential part of re-establishing the quality of the original Reserve Port. Cockburn's Special Reserve has once again become the benchmark Reserve Port, winning a collection of prizes at the major international wine competitions. Cockburn's Special Reserve is a delicious Port with which to end a meal, enjoyed on its own or paired with dessert or fine cheese.
After a carefully judged period of time in seasoned oak, Cockburn's Special Reserve is given a light fining before bottling and therefore there is no need to decant this wine. Serve at room temperature or lightly chilled in warmer weather.
